Continuing a tradition that began in 2012 with the KD 4, the Nike KD 3 “Aunt Pearl” celebrates the memory of Kevin Durant’s beloved aunt, who passed away from lung cancer in 2000.

Dressed in a “Medium Soft Pink,” “White” and “Lotus Pink” are believed to dress the pair’s mixed textile construction. Along the mesh tongue and lace set sits a vibrant pink hue while the weaved material along the midfoot also borrows this shade. Accenting this is a white Nike Swoosh that runs back towards the heel and its KD branded logo in pink.The proceeds from the special edition KD 3 will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

What does Aunt Pearl mean?

Nike announced the KD VI Aunt Pearl, which honors Durant’s aunt who passed away from lung cancer in 2000. The proceeds from the special edition shoe will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

The design is inspired by a robe Aunt Pearl would often wear:

The KD VI Aunt Pearl pays tribute to KD’s aunt with a pink floral pattern on the upper and highlights of blue with subtle pearls.  The floral motif on the shoe is similar to the pattern on a robe that Aunt Pearl often wore.

Durant has vowed to make sure the memory of his Aunt Pearl lives on:

“I made a promise to myself to always honor my Aunt Pearl for the example she set, and the encouragement she gave me to follow my dreams,” said Durant.

When did the KD 3 come out?

Bringing back a classic, the Nike KD 3 “All-Star” which was first released in February 2011, is making a retro return in 2023.
